The Wood Memorial Stakes 2006 runs on April 8, 2006 at the Aqueduct in New York, a top preparatory race for the 2006 Kentucky Derby taking place May 6, 2006 at Churchill Downs.

Wood Memorial is the first leg of the Big 3 Pick 3, a $1 minimum national wager where horse racing fans will try to pick the winner of three important prep races for three-year-olds planning on running in the upcoming Triple Crown races -- Wood Memorial, the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, and the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland

Many of the top-competing three-year-old thoroughbreds will race Wood Memorial's nine furlongs as a tune-up for the Kentucky Derby and other Triple Crown races.

The Wood Memorial Stakes also highlights the Aqueduct's Winter/Spring Meeting as part of the 2006 NYRA stakes schedule. It traditionally features many Kentucky Derby contenders and has produced three of the last six Derby victors.
