Rebel Stakes 2006 @ Oaklawn Park Kentucky Derby Prep Races

The Rebel Stakes is slated on March 18, 2006, at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Still part of the trail to the 2006 Triple Crown and important prep races for Kentucky Derby 2006 at Churchill Downs on May 6, 2006.

The Rebel Stakes is a Grade III stakes race for three year old thoroughbred horses, raced at a distance of 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) on the dirt. Since the Kentucky Derby was first run on May 17, 1875, two Rebel Stakes champions went on to win the Run for the Roses -- the very legendary Smarty Jones as well as Sunny's Halo.

Rebel Stakes is the race, which has become one of the most meaningful three-year-old events of the Spring. The most significant matchup in the field is between Lawyer Ron, winner of the Southwest Stakes and four races in a row, and the heralded Private Vow, making his first 2006 start. A number of other eager aspirants, including Steppenwolfer, Red Raymond, and Well Said, will also attempt to take the next step to the $1 million Arkansas Derby, which will be run at Oaklawn on Saturday, April 15.
