Pioneerof The Nile - 2009 Preakness Stakes Contender

Santa Anita Derby winner Pioneerof the Nile could become the eighth to come out of that race to win the Preakness, following Candy Spots (1963), Majestic Prince (1969), Affirmed (1978), Codex (1980), Snow Chief (1985), Sunday Silence (1989) and Point Given (2001).

The May 5 foal Pioneerof the Nile has been streaking as of late, winning four straight, a string of victories comprised by the Grade 1 Cash Call (Hollywood ) Futurity, the Grade 2 Robert Lewis, the Grade 2 San Felipe and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby. The western hope made his first two career starts at Saratoga, finishing well while fourth in his debut before winning his maiden even as he lunged at the break. Prior to his Cash Call victory he was third in the Breeders' Futurity and a solid fifth at 32-1 in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Sire Empire Maker thwarted Funny Cide's Triple Crown bid with a Belmont Stakes victory. Pioneerof the Nile's female family is replete with stakes winner, his dam having won the La Troienne among other races.
