Flying Private's 19th and last-place finish in the Kentucky Derby and fifth-place finish in the Arkansas Derby came after promising runner-up performances in the Lanes End and the Mountain Valley. He broke his maiden at Saratoga last year at 8-1. Flying Private would seem entitled to classic success, being by a Kentucky Derby winner (Fusaichi Pegasus) out of a mare by a Kentucky Derby winner (Unbridled).
