Kentucky Derby 2009 Trainers
The 2009 Kentucky Derby, first leg of the Triple Crown race, happens on May 2, 2009 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Although the contenders' names are different from past Kentucky Derby races, the trainers pool remain the same.

Bob Baffert is a three-time Eclipse Award winner as outstanding trainer (1997-99). He has trained 3 Kentucky Derby winners, 4 Preakness winners, and 1 Belmont Stakes winner. Baffert has also been a 4-time leading annual money leader for trainers.
Todd Pletcher (entries: Bluegrass Cat, Keyed Entry)
Todd Pletcher, the 2004 Eclipse Award-winning trainer, earlier this fall broke the all-time earnings record of $19,147,129 set by Bobby Frankel in 2003. He trained champion horses Ashado, Flower Alley and Bandini.
Nick Zito (entries: Great Point, Superfly)
One of only 17 trainers in history to saddle two or more Kentucky Derby winners, Nick Zito's career includes enough highlights to fill a novel. Zito's most recent high-profile triumph came in the 2004 Belmont Stakes, when his Birdstone beat out Smarty Jones to take the coveted third jewel of the Triple Crown. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2005.
Steve Asmussen (entries: Private Vow)
As of November 20, 2004, Steve Asmussen was at 497 wins and counting, he has broken Jack Van Berg's single season record for wins by a trainer in a single season. When he broke the record he was third in earnings behind Todd Pletcher and Bobby Frankel, and his horses were winning 24% of the time, and finishing in the top three 55% of the time.
