Due to a soft tissue injury, Tropic Storm will miss the 2008 Breeders’ Cup said race horse trainer Craig Dollase who was at Hollywood Park. Tropic Storm was pre-entered in both the Breeders’ Cup Sprint as well as the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint field.
Also at Hollywood Park is Casino Drive of Japan, who won his debut at Santa Anita Park last Sunday. The undefeated colt galloped one lap around Hollywood Park’s Cushion Track and remains on course for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, according to Nobutaka Tada, racing manager for owner Hidetoshi Yamamoto.
Casino Drive will face defending Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Curlin on October 25 at Santa Anita.

The 2008 Breeders’ Cup World Championships consisting of 14 Breeders’ Cup races will be run in the span of 2 days on October 24-25 at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park.
First day of the Breeders’ Cup, Friday, October 24, consists of an all-female race card with post time as follows:
- 12:35 PM Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
- 1:15 PM Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
- 1:55 PM Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies
- 2:35 PM Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf
- 3:15 PM Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (formerly known as the Breeders’ Cup Distaff)

Second day of the Breeders’ Cup races, Saturday, October 25, will have the following post times:
- 10:10 AM Breeders’ Cup Marathon
- 10:50 AM Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint
- 11:30 AM Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile
- 12:15 PM Breeders’ Cup Mile
- 12:55 PM Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
- 1:35 PM Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf
- 2:15 PM Breeders’ Cup Sprint
- 3:00 PM Breeders’ Cup Turf
- 3:45 PM Breeders’ Cup Classic

Ten of the 14 Breeders’ Cup races could have full fields as a record 180 thoroughbreds were pre-entered for the two-day program at Santa Anita Park.
That’s good news for horseplayers because the larger the fields, the better the payoffs, Historically, exotic wagers produced big bucks during the 24-year history of America’s premier horse racing day.
Fields this year might average 12.78 compared to 11.69 at Monmouth Park in 2007 when 122 horses were pre-entered in 11 Breeders’ Cup contests. That doesn’t count horses entered in two races in case they don’t get realize their first choice.

The 27th Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held at the home of the Kentucky Derby on November 5-6, 2010, the seventh time horse racing’s biggest event will be held at Churchill Downs and the first time since the Breeders’ Cup expanded to 2 days of racing in 2007.
Breeders’ Cup chairman William Farish said Churchill Downs’s popularity with both horsemen and horse racing fans played an important part in the decision to return the Breeders’ Cup to the track. Six of the seven biggest crowds in Breeders’ Cup history have been at Churchill Downs.
The 2008 and 2009 Breeders’ Cups will be held at Santa Anita in California.

Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin arrived from New York to California at 5 pm today to begin training on Santa Anita Park’s new synthetic surface in anticipation of a possible start in the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 25.
Owner Jess Jackson has said he first wants to test Curlin on the Pro-Ride surface before committing to run him against Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown and some of Europe’s top horses in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown has already been committed to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and will ship to California from New York a few days before the race.

The Oak Tree Racing Association will card a record total of 6 Grade I Breeders’ Cup prep stakes on Saturday, September 27, which includes the Goodwood Stakes, Yellow Ribbon Stakes, Oak Leaf Stakes, Clement Hirsch Turf Championship, Lady’s Secret Stakes and the Ancient Title Stakes and will offer horsemen nearly $2 million in purses on the biggest Breeders’ Cup prep day in horse racing history.
The 26-day Oak Tree meeting will begin on Wednesday, September 24, which will have the Morvich Handicap (gr. III) in its card. The Morvich Handicap is a 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” horse race where the winner will automatically be part of the Breeders’ Cup field for the October 25 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP)–Trainers of horses that test positive for anabolic steroids at the 2008 Breeders’ Cup in October will face a one-year suspension from the event, and three-time violators will be banned for life, according to new rules announced Friday.
The Breeders’ Cup will be at Santa Anita Park in California on Oct. 24-25, and the track will also host the event in 2009.
“We must provide an even playing field for all our equine athletes if we are to continue to offer the best thoroughbred racing in the world,” said Greg Avioli, Breeders’ Cup president and chief executive officer. “Our number one priority remains preserving the integrity of our competition and protecting the welfare of our athletes.”

The Breeders’ Cup Challenge is adding 4 horse races that will give the winners automatic bids to the Breeders’ Cup on October 24-25 at Santa Anita Park.
Three of the four added Breeders’ Cup Challenge horse races are automatic qualifiers for the new $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon, to be run at 1 1/2 miles for 3-year-olds and up. They are the Greenwood Cup at Philadelphia Park, the Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar and the Turfway Park Fall Championship at Turfway Park in Kentucky.
The one-mile Tiznow Stakes at Louisiana Downs is a qualifier for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
