Drosselmeyer Wins The Belmont Stakes 2010 at Belmont Park June 5

WinStar Farm’s 13-1 longshot Drosselmeyer, ridden by jockey Mike Smith , won Saturday’s $1-million Belmont Stakes 2010 on June 5 at Belmont Park.

SBG   Global RacebookTrained by Bill Mott, Drosselmeyer covered 1 1/2 miles in 2:31.57 and paid $28, $11.60 and $7.70. Fly Down, under jockey John Velazquez, placed second and returned $6.80 and $5.10. First Dude with jockey Ramon Dominguez aboard came in third and paid $9.90 to show.

Drosselmeyer gave Hall of Fame race horse trainer Bill Mott and Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith their first Belmont Stakes winner while owner WinStar Farm now owns two Triple Crown wins this year, having taken the Kentucky Derby in May with Super Saver.

“It all came together,” said race horse trainer Bill Mott, best known as the trainer of the great Cigar in 1995-96. “I think it was just a matter of time with some of the good horses I get to train that it was going to happen.”

The victory by Drosselmeyer closes another year without a Triple Crown win. It’s 32 years and counting since Affirmed became the 11th Triple Crown champion by sweeping the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
