Zenyatta Wins The Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park November 7

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Moss’s undefeated Zenyatta, ridden by jockey Mike Smith, made horse racing history as she beat the males and became the first female to win the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic Saturday, November 7, at Santa Anita Park.

Zenyatta overcame a poor start as she roared from last to first, outrunning a talent-packed Breeders’ Cup Classic field.

“She’s sent from God,” winning jockey Mike Smith said. “I think he wanted a horse and made her and brought her down here to race against everyone.”

Zenyatta, who surpassed Personal Ensign’s US record of 13 straight victorie s for a filly or mare, earned her 14th and probably last win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Online Horse Betting“I can’t believe it. She is a great, great filly,” race horse trainer John Shirreffs said. “She is all heart. The way the crowd took to her was just amazing. They cheered for her, they clapped for her. They love her. What a wonderful relationship.”

Race horse trainer John Shirreffs won the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic on Friday with Life Is Sweet to complete a weekend that should put him in contention for an Eclipse Award as champion trainer.

Other horses that raced in Santa Anita’s Breeders’ Cup Classic in order of finish: Summer Bird, Colonel John, Richard’s Kid, Awesome Gem, Regal Ransom, Mine That Bird, Rip Van Winkle (IRE), Einstein (BRZ) and Girolamo. Quality Road was scratched after he bucked violently in the starting gate and scraped his hind leg.

Quality Road has a history of acting up at the gate. This time, it cost his connections a shot at winning North America’s richest race.

“We got the worse luck at the worst time on the biggest day,” race horse trainer Todd Pletcher said.
