Well Armed Wins 2009 Dubai World Cup at Nad al Sheba March 28
Winstar Farm’s Well Armed, ridden by jockey Aaron Gryder, won the $6-million Dubai World Cup by a record 14 lengths at Nad al Sheba Racecourse on Saturday, March 28.
Trained by Eoin Harty, Well Armed covered 10 furlongs in 2:01:01. Glória De Campeão, under jockey Jorge Leme, placed second while Paris Perfect with jockey Bernard Faydherbe aboard came in third. Horse wagering is illegal in Dubai. UAE Derby horse betting payouts are available in online racebooks such as Bodog Racebook, SBG Global Racebook, BetUS Racebook as well as Sportsbetting.com.
Well Armed’s margin nearly doubled the record of 7 3/4 lengths set by Curlin last year. Jockey Aaron Gryder was so confident he began patting the son of Well Dressed’s neck about 10 strides before the finish.
The 2009 Dubai World Cup, the richest race in horse racing, is the last horse race in Nad al Sheba which will be demolished to make way for a $1.25 billion racing complex.
“Last race at Nad Al Sheba, and we won it!” winning jockey Aaron Gryder said.
Other horses that raced in Nad al Sheba’s Dubai World Cup in order of finish: Muller, My Indy, Albertus Maximus, Snaafy, Casino Drive, Happy Boy, Muhannak, Arson Squad, Asiatic Boy, Joe Louis, Anak Nakal.
