Triumphant Flight Wins San Miguel Stakes at Santa Anita Park March 28
Tyler Seltzer’s Triumphant Flight, ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, won the $87,800 San Miguel Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, March 28.
The San Miguel Stakes is one of the prep races for the Kentucky Derby 135 to be held on May 2 at Churchill Downs.
Trained by Eric Kruljac, Triumphant Flight covered 6 furlongs in 1:09.54 and paid $16.40, $6.40 and $3.20. Charlie’s Moment, under jockey Danny Sorenson, placed second and returned $4.60 and $2.60. Turk with jockey Joel Rosario aboard came in third and paid $2.40 to show.
“This horse has such a big heart. He’s tried hard in all of his races,” said winning jockey Victor Espinoza. “Today, we had the one hole, so we really didn’t have much choice except to just let him run away from there. The fractions helped us and from the three eighths pole to the wire, he picked it up.”
Race horse trainer Eric Kruljac is considering the $250,000 Snow Chief Stakes for California-breds at 1 1/8 miles at Hollywood Park on April 25 for Triumphant Flight’s next start.
Other horses that raced in Santa Anita‘s San Miguel Stakes in order of finish: Reynaldothewizard, Gotmymojoworkin and Flashmans Papers (GB).
