This Ones for Phil Wins Swale Stakes After Big Drama Disqualification at Gulfstream Park March 28
Paul Pompa, Jr. and partners’ probable Kentucky Derby contender This Ones for Phil, ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez, finished half a length behind Big Drama but after a disqualification, won the $150,000 Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Florida Derby Day.
The Swale Stakes is one of the Kentucky Derby 135 prep races scheduled on Saturday, March 28.
Trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., This Ones for Phil paid $5.20, $3 and $2.40. Big Drama, under jockey Eibar Coa, placed second after a stewards’ inquiry and returned $3 and 42.20. Custom for Carlos with jockey Kent Desormeaux aboard came in third and paid $2.80 to show.
A son of Montbrook trained by David Fawkes, Big Drama, who was disqualified after bumping his closest rival twice in the stretch run, was timed in the 7-furlong Swale Stakes in track-record time of 1:20:88 over the fast track.
Other horses that raced in Gulfstream‘s Swale Stakes in order of finish: Brave Victory, Sabi Sabi and B Z Warrior.
