Jess Jackson declined to mention where filly Rachel Alexandra, the first filly to win the Preakness in 85 years, will start next.
With filly Rachel Alexandra off the Belmont Stakes 2009, and jockey Mike Smith, who rode Mine That Bird to a second place finish in the Preakness Stakes, committed to ride in California on Belmont Stakes day, it left jockey Calvin Borel free to ride Kentucky Derby winnerMine That Bird in the third leg of the Triple Crown.
“Now that the decision is made, I am excited to come to New York and ride Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes,” Borel said.
Jockey Calvin Borel is aiming to win the Triple Crown aboard different horses. Borel rode Mine That Bird to victory in the Kentucky Derby and Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness.
Among the Belmont Stakes entries racing against Mine That Bird are: Brave Victory, Charitable Man, Chocolate Candy, Dunkirk, Flying Private, Luv Gov, Miner’s Escape, Mr. Hot Stuff, Summer Bird and possibly Nowhere To Hide.
Belmont Stakes post positions draw is on Wednesday. The Belmont Stakes is scheduled as the 11th race in Belmont Park’s June 6 horse racing program. Belmont Stakes post time is 6:27 pm.
