Square Eddie Off The 2009 Kentucky Derby With Shin Injury

One of the leading Kentucky Derby contenders, Square Eddie is out of the 2009 Kentucky Derby due to a shin injury.

SBG Global RacebookRace horse trainer Doug O’Neill said Square Eddie developed a hot spot in the shin at Churchill Downs over the weekend. The injury of Square Eddie was a reoccurrence of a shin problem that hindered his training over the last 3 months and had kept him off the Kentucky Derby 135 trail earlier this year.

Square Eddie finished third in his last start on April 18 in the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland.

Doug O’Neill plans to give Square Eddie a few weeks off before deciding where to race next.

The injury is not believed to be career threatening.
