Preakness Winner Filly Rachel Alexandra Works At Saratoga For The Haskell Invitational August 2

Stonestreet Stables’ and Harold McCormick’s Preakness winner filly Rachel Alexandra put in her third workout over the Oklahoma Training Track at Saratoga Race Course Monday since winning the Mother Goose more than 3 weeks ago.

Online Horse BettingWith regular exercise rider Dominic Terry up, filly Rachel Alexandra breezed 6 furlongs in 1:13.88, the best of 6 workouts at that distance for the morning.

Dominic Terry put the 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro through fractions of :13 1/5 (first eighth of a mile), :25 2/5 (first quarter), :37 2/5 (three furlongs) and :49 3/5 (four furlongs). She then galloped out 7 furlongs in 1:27 2/5. The average workout time of filly Rachel Alexandra over the Saratoga training track this morning was :38 2/5 for 3 furlongs and :50 for 4 furlongs.

“She looked like her usual self; she was impressive and got over the ground well,” said Scott Blasi, assistant to race horse trainer Steve Asmussen. “We wanted [to give her] a nice, smooth three quarters and a long gallop. Dominic did a great job with her.”

Filly Rachel Alexandra is being pointed to the $1-million Haskell Invitational 2009 for 3-year-olds running 1 1/8 miles at Monmouth Park on August 2. She is coming off a record-setting performance in the 9-furlong Mother Goose (gr. I) at Belmont Park on June 27, which she won by 19 1/4 lengths in a stakes-record time of 1:46 1/5.

“She does things so easily,” Scott Blasi added. “She’s a special horse and it’s obvious when you see her coming down the lane. She has settled in here perfectly. She has put on weight and she is a picture of [good] health. We’re right on target for the Haskell.”

Probable Haskell Invitational entries facing filly Rachel Alexandra are: Munnings, Atomic Rain, Bunker Hill, Papa Clem and Duke of Mischief.
