Mare Vacare Retired
Mare Vacare, who had been considered for San Gorgonio Handicap on Sunday at Santa Anita Park, was not entered and has been retired from horse racing.
Winner of the Dahlia Handicap (gr. IIT) at Hollywood Park on December 21, Vacare, leaves for Kentucky January 7 where she will be in quarantine for 30 days before going to England to be bred to Pivotal, according to Nicholas Bachalard, assistant to race horse trainer Christophe Clement.
The 6-year-old Lear Fan mare Vacare won the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Keeneland in 2006 and has a 8-2-1 record from 14 starts, all on turf.
Included in Vacare’s victories are the 2008 Palomar Handicap (gr. IIT); the 2007 First Lady (gr. II) and Magna Distaff Stakes; and the 2006 Pucker Up Stakes (gr. IIIT). Vacare placed in 3 stakes, including the Yellow Ribbon (gr. IT) and Gamely (gr. IT) Stakes. She ran fifth in the 2008 Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) while beaten 2 lengths.
Vacare was retired with earnings of $1,213,706.
