Lahaleeb Wins The E. P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine October 17

Mohammed Al Qatami and Khalid Al Mudhaf’s 44-1 longshot Lahaleeb, ridden by jockey William Buick, won Saturday’s $1,001,200 E. P. Taylor Stakes on October 17 at Woodbine becoming the highest-priced winner of the race in its 54 editions October 17.

SBG Global RacebookTrained by Michael Channon, Lahaleeb covered 1 1/4 miles on turf in 2:02.89 and paid $90.70, $32.90 and $12.80. Rainbow View placed second and returned $3.70 and $2.60. Princess Haya came in third and paid $4.60 to show.

Lahaleeb earned $600,000 for her first Grade 1 win in the E. P. Taylor Stakes and a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf field this November at Santa Anita as a Breeders’ Cup 2009 Challenge event.

The Breeders’ Cup would be a lovely thing, but, we do think she needs a little bit of a cut in the ground, which is why we came here really,” race horse trainer Michael Channon said. “So, we are not to sure really, It’s a question of one race at a time.”

Other horses that raced in Woodbine’s E. P. Taylor Stakes in order of finish: Eastern Aria (UAE), Salve Germania (IRE), Treat Gently (GB), Look Here (GB) and Roses ‘n’ Wine.
