Kodiak Kowboy Wins The Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct November 28

Vinery Stables and Fox Hill Farm’s Kodiak Kowboy, ridden by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, wrapped up his horse racing career by winning the $300,000 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct Race Track on Saturday, November 28.

Online Horse BettingTrained by Steve Asmussen, Kodiak Kowboy covered a mile in 1:35.57 and paid $8.70, $4.10 and $2.10. Bribon, under jockey Rajiv Maragh, placed second and returned $3.40 and $2.10. Vineyard Haven with jockey Alan Garcia aboard came in third and paid $2.10 to show.

The victory marked the third Grade 1 of the year for Kodiak Kowboy, who won the Carter Handicap at the Big A in April while under the care of race horse trainer Larry Jones and the Vosburgh at Belmont Park in October for Asmussen.

With career earnings of $1,668,529 and a record of 11-4-3 from 23 starts, Kodiak Kowboy is a six-time graded stakes winner including victories at Saratoga Race Course in the Saratoga Special (gr. II) in 2007 and the Amsterdam (gr. II) in 2008, and at Belmont Park in the Sport Page (gr. III) in 2008.

“We couldn’t be happier,” said Tom Ludt, president of Vinery Stables. “Shaun rode a great race. He’s ridden him well as a 2-year-old, and as a 4-year-old. This horse has been so good for us. Now, he’s going home to be a dad.”
