Kentucky Oaks Winner Rachel Alexandra Entered To The Preakness Stakes 2009
Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra is among 13 race horses entered for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes field.
Filly Rachel Alexandra was entered Wednesday to run against the boys in the Preakness, along with 50-1 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird and Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof the Nile.
Rachel Alexandra’s new owners paid a $100,000 supplemental fee to get her in the Preakness Stakes because she wasn’t nominated to any of the Triple Crown races. The expectation was that she would compete only against her own gender.
Also entered for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness Stakes 2009 were beaten Kentucky Derby favorite Friesan Fire, Big Drama, Flying Private, General Quarters, Luv Gov, third-place Kentucky Derby finisher Musket Man, Papa Clem, Take the Points, Terrain and Tone It Down.
The Preakness Stakes entries fell one short of the 14-horse limit, which hasn’t been reached since 2005 when Afleet Alex won.
