Mooncoin LLC’s Johnny Eves, ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez, won the $150,000 Palos Verdes Handicap by 1 3/4 lengths Sunday, January 25, at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Jay Robbins, Johnny Eves ran 6 furlongs in 1:08.56, paying $7.20, $3.60 and $2.80. Devoted Magic, under jockey Joe Talamo, placed second and returned $3.40 and $2.40. Three-quarters of a length behind, Halo Najib with jockey Rafael Bejarano paid $4.40 to show.
The Palos Verdes Handicap win brought $90,000, increasing the earnings of Johnny Eves to $581,120 from a lifetime record of 7-4-0 in 20 races.
