Illinois Derby Winner Musket Man Part of The Preakness Stakes Field
Race horse trainer Derek Ryan confirmed that Illinois Derby winner Musket Man will be one of the Preakness starters.
The third-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby Musket Man will run in the Preakness Stakes 2009, second leg of the Triple Crown at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course on May 16.
Musket Man will take on long shot Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird in the Preakness Stakes at 1 3/16 miles, with the rest of the Preakness field still to be determined.
Among other confirmed Preakness horses are Papa Clem, Flying Private, Big Drama and Hull.
Trainer Derek Ryan says Musket Man galloped Wednesday morning at Monmouth Park and will be shipped to Pimlico the day before the Preakness.
Musket Man won 5 of 6 races before the Kentucky Derby and has finished in the top 3 in all his career starts.
