Field Commission Wins The Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine October 17

Field Commission, ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, won the $547,400 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday, October 17.

SBG Global RacebookTrained and co-owned (along with Ed Seltzer) by Daniel Vella, Field Commission covered 6 furlongs on turf in 1:09.23 and paid $13.20, $8.70 and $4.70. Bogue Chitto placed second and returned $18.20 and $7.60. Jungle Wave came in third and paid $2.80 to show.

The Nearctic Stakes winner Field Commission earned a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on November 7 at Santa Anita as part of the Breeders’ Cup 2009 “Win and You’re In” series.

“The trainer told me to wait on the rail and be patient,” said winning jockey Julien Leparoux. “I think he deserves it (to go on to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint). We were in a very good position. He was very relaxed on the rail. I was able to get out and he finished well. He’s a nice horse. He ran very big today.”

Other horses that raced in Woodbine’s Nearctic Stakes in order of finish: Little Nick, Heros Reward, Grand Adventure, Chamberlain Bridge, Storm Treasure, Karakorum Elektra, Legal Move and Silver Z.
