Dunkirk Preps For The Belmont Stakes 2009
Race horse trainer Todd Pletcher will send Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor’s Belmont Stakes contender Dunkirk out Monday morning as he continues preparations for the Belmont Stakes 2009.
The gray Unbridled’s Song colt, Dunkirk, breezed a half-mile in a bullet 47.24 last Monday in his first move since finishing 11th behind Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby.
“I haven’t decided how far he will go,” said race horse trainer Todd Pletcher. “But he will go after the break.
Possible Belmont Stakes entries are Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra, Brave Victory, Charitable Man, Chocolate Candy, Flying Private, Luv Gov, Miner’s Escape, Mr. Hot Stuff and Summer Bird.
The Belmont Stakes weekend is shaping up to be a busy one for Todd Pletcher. In addition to Dunkirk, he is also pointing Cowboy Cal to the $400,000 Woodford Reserve Manhattan (gr. I), Captain’s Lover to the $400,000 Just A Game (gr. I), Affirmatif to the $100,000 Hill Prince (gr. III), Munnings to the $250,000 Woody Stephens (gr. II), and Yesshesalady toward the $300,000 Acorn (gr. I).
“It looks like it will be a busy weekend,” Todd Pletcher said. “Whether it will be a good weekend we won’t know until the races are over.”
