Charitable Man Wins The Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park May 9
Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren Jr.’s Charitable Man, ridden by jockey Alan Garcia, won Saturday’s$200,000 Peter Pan Stakes by 3 3/4 lengths on May 9 at Belmont Park, home of the Belmont Stakes 2009.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Charitable Man covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.13 and paid $5.40 3.60 3. Imperial Council, under jockey Edgar Prado, placed second and returned $3 and $2.70. Brave Victory with jockey Rajiv Maragh aboard came in third and paid $5.30 to show.
Race horse trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said that Charitable Man will point to the 141st running of the $1-million Belmont Stakes 2009 on Saturday, June 6.
“We’ll talk with Mr. Warren about the possibility of the Belmont. We’ll take a look and see how the Preakness goes (on May 16),” said Kiaran McLaughlin. “But he is definitely bred to get a mile and a half and he likes this track and he did it the right way today, so we’ll look at it.”
Other horses that raced in Belmont Park’s Peter Pan Stakes in order of finish: Hello Broadway, Scorewithcater, Al Khali and Stately Character.
