Brother Keith To Race In San Rafael Stakes at Santa Anita Park January 17
Brother Keith, winner of his only start, steps into graded company next Saturday, January 12, in Santa Anita Park’s 29th running of the $100,000 San Rafael Stakes (gr. III) at 1 mile, a prep race for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 4 as well as the 2009 Kentucky Derby on May 2 at Churchill Downs.
“You gotta try him someplace,” Hall of Fame race horse trainer Bobby Frankel said. When it was suggested he might go through his conditions, rather than face the likes of Lane’s End Futurity winner Square Eddie, Frankel countered: “Maybe the races won’t go. I got to get him started.”
Probable for the San Rafael Stakes field with jockeys:
Brother Keith under jockey Garrett Gomez
Fiddler’s Afleet, Michael Baze
Frumious, Victor Espinoza
Square Eddie, Rafael Bejarano
