Winner of 1980 Kentucky Derby Filly Genuine Risk Dead at 31

UPPERVILLE, Va. (AP)–Genuine Risk, one of only three fillies to win the Kentucky Derby, has died at Virginia’s Newstead Farm.

The farm said the 1980 Kentucky Derby winner died peacefully shortly after being turned out in her paddock Monday morning. Genuine Risk was 31, and was the oldest living Kentucky Derby winner.

Genuine Risk became the first filly in 65 years to win the Kentucky Derby, and is the only filly to finish in the top three in all three legs of the Triple Crown, running second in both the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes.
