Wasserman ridden by jockey Jennifer Whitaker wins the $300,000 Longacres Mile Handicap at Emerald Downs on Sunday, August 17.
As part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” format, the Longacres Mile Handicap winner will automatically be one of the Breeders’ Cup horses for the October 25 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile to be held at Santa Anita Park.
Trained and owned by Howard Belvoir, Wasserman covered 1 mile in 1:35.00 and paid $22.40, $7.60 and $3.20. True Metropolitan under jockey James McAleney placed second and returned $4.60 and $3.20. Tropic Storm with jockey Aaron Gryder aboard came in third and paid $2.60 to show.
