Wait A While Victorious in San Gorgonio Handicap at Santa Anita Park
Wait a While with jockey Garrett Gomez aboard wins Santa Anita Park’s $150,000 San Gorgonio Handicap on Monday, January 14.
The finish time for the 1 1/8 mile turf race for older horses was 1:46.81. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the 41-year-old Texas native who recently captured his 2,000th career victory on the 8th race at Santa Anita’s January 13 card, Wait a While, paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10. Lavender Sky ridden by Alex Solis returned $4.60 and $3. Sohgol under jockey David Flores paid $2.60 to show.
The San Gorgonio win marked the 7-for-11 on the turf for Wait a While. The victory added $90,000 to Wait a While’s earnings while boosting her career total to $1,819,917 from a record of 10-3-4 in 20 starts for Alan Cohen, of Weston, Florida, who races as Arindel Farm.
Todd Pletcher said Wait a While’s next out likely will come in Santa Anita’s Santa Ana Handicap (gr. II), a 1 1/8 miles turf race, on March 3. “She’ll probably go back to Saratoga in the summer,” he said. “We would hope to come back here in the fall. Running in the Yellow Ribbon before the Breeders’ Cup (Filly & Mare Turf) would make sense. We’ll see.”
Costume and Hucking Hot finished the lineup of horses that ran in Monday’s San Gorgonio Handicap at Santa Anita Park.
