Turfway Park’s Rushaway & Lane’s End Stakes Entries For March 22
Turfway Park’s 37th running of the $500,000 Lane’s End Stakes on Saturday, March 22, attracted twelve 3-year-old horses.
The Lane’s End Stakes is one of the 2008 Kentucky Derby prep races. Although there are no big names in Lane’s End Stakes field, there’s still a chance one or two 2008 Kentucky Derby contenders will emerge.
All carrying 121 pounds, horses racing in the 1 1/8 mile Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park’s synthetic Polytrack with jockeys line up as follows:
Duke of de Buqe ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux
Macho Again ridden by jockey Miguel Mena
Chitoz ridden by jockey Rene Douglas
Rich Young Ruler ridden by jockey Thomas Pompell
Adriano ridden by jockey Edgar Prado
Racecar Rhapsody ridden by jockey Robby Albarado
Halo’s King ridden by jockey Jesus Lopez Castanon
Halo Najib ridden by jockey Kent Desormeaux
Cannonball ridden by jockey Alex Solis
El Aleman ridden by jockey Orlando Mojica
Turf War ridden by jockey Patrick Husbands
Medjool ridden by jockey Michael Baze
Halo Najib was made the 7-2 morning-line favorite, with Cannonball the 9-2 second-choice for the Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park.
Halo Najib is unbeaten on synthetic surfaces. He broke his maiden last October over Keeneland’s Polytrack, and two starts ago won the Ocala Breeders’ Sale Championship at the Ocala Training Center.
The Lane’s End Stakes is scheduled as the 12th race in Turfway Park’s March 22 horse racing program. Estimated local post time is 6:49 pm EST.
Included in Lane’s End Stakes undercard is the $100,000 Rushaway Stakes, also a prep race for the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Since it is not a graded stakes, it is not considered a major prep and winnings from the Rushaway Stakes will not be counted for qualification for the May 3 race at Churchill Downs should there be more than 20 Kentucky Derby entries.
The complete field of the 1 1/16 mile Rushaway Stakes with jockeys and weight in post position order:
Acting Out ridden by jockey Jesus Lopez Castanon carries 115 lbs.
Tejanos Eliminator ridden by jockey Robby Albarado, 115 lbs.
Holidaze ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, 117 lbs.
Miner’s Claim ridden by jockey Patrick Husbands, 115 lbs.
