Sugar Swirl Wins Hurricane Bertie Handicap at Gulfstream Park

Stronach Stables’ Sugar Swirl, ridden by jockey Javier Castellano, won the $101,500 Hurricane Bertie Handicap at Gulfstream Park Sunday, February 17.

Trained by Brian Lynch, Sugar Swirl covered 7 furlongs in 1:22.77 and paid $ 3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. Change Up, under jockey Kent Desormeaux, is 8 3/4 lengths behind and returned $3.40 and $2.60. Silver Knockers with jockey John Velazquez aboard paid $2.80 to show.

Older fillies and mares who also raced in Gulfstream Park’s Hurricane Bertie Handicap: V. I. P. Princess, Cher Ami and Linda May. Bereba and Lady Marlboro were scratched.
