Carrying top weight of 124 pounds, Benny the Bull is looking for a win for his 5th straight start. The 5-year-old son of Lucky Lionel, Benny the Bull, won last fall’s Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (gr. I), the January 26 Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes, the May 29 Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE- I), and the June 7 True North Handicap (gr. II).

Trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., who also trains Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, Benny the Bull will be ridden by jockey Edgar Prado in the Smile Sprint Handicap this Saturday.

The 5-year-old gelding by Suggest, Indian Chant, may prove to be a threat to Benny the Bull. Indian Chant enters the Smile Sprint Handicap off a victory in the May 31 Aristides Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs. Trained by Thomas Amoss, Indian Chant is an expert at 6 furlongs. Indian Chant set a new track record for that distance in 1:07.55 last year at Churchill Downs. Jockey Jamie Theriot will be riding Indian Chant in the 6-furlong Smile Sprint Handicap.

The Smile Sprint Handicap is the 10th race in Calder Race Course’s July 12 horse racing program. Smile Sprint Handicap post time is 4:54 pm.
