Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes at Keeneland October 4

A top quality field of 12 race horses will go postward in Saturday’s 23rd running of the $600,000 Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. I), part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge. The winner will earn a spot in the Breeders’ Cup field for the October 25 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I) to be run Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park.

All carrying 126 pounds, Keeneland’s Shadwell Turf Mile field of race horses with jockeys and morning line odds from the hedge out:

Shakis (IRE) ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano with morning line odds of 7-2
Kingship ridden by jockey Cornelio Velasquez, 12-1
Thorn Song ridden by jockey Robby Albarado, 4-1
Elusive Fort (SAF) ridden by jockey Rene Douglas, 15-1
Lord Admiral ridden by jockey Jamie Theriot II, 6-1
War Monger ridden by jockey Kent Desormeaux, 5-1
Buffalo Man ridden by jockey Carlos Marquez, Jr., 15-1
Lovelace (GB) ridden by jockey Royston Ffrench, 12-1
Society’s Chairman ridden by jockey Jono Jones, 15-1
French Beret ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, 20-1
Karelian ridden by jockey Miguel Mena, 20-1
Rahy’s Attorney ridden by jockey Slade Callaghan, 5-1
Museeb ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano, 20-1

Bookending the Shadwell Turf Mile field will be Shadwell Stable’s Shakis (IRE), repeat winner of the Bernard Baruch (gr. II) at Saratoga, who will break from post position 1, and Woodbine Mile (gr. I) winner Rahy’s Attorney, who will break from post position 12. Rahy’s Attorney is owned by Ellie Boje Farm, Mitch Peters, Dean Peters, Dean Read and Jean and Jim MacLellan.

Other 2008 graded or group stakes winners in the field are Buffalo Man, French Beret, Lord Admiral, Lovelace (GB) and Thorn Song.

The Shadwell Turf Mile is the 8th race in Keeneland’s October 4 horse racing program. Shadwell Turf Mile post time is 4:55 pm.
