A field of 10 horses will race in Del Mar’s $300,000 San Diego Handicap (gr. II) which is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” horse races this Saturday, July 19. The San Diego Handicap winner will be one of the Breeders’ Cup entries for the October 25 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita Park.
Raced at 1 1/16 miles, the San Diego Handicap field of horses with jockeys and weight line up as follows:
Mostacolli Mort ridden by jockey Tyler Baze carries 114 lbs.
Surf Cat ridden by jockey David Flores, 120 lbs.
Rebellion (GB) ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano, 119 lbs.
Magnum (ARG) ridden by jockey Martin Pedroza, 115 lbs.
Racketeer ridden by jockey Corey Nakatani, 113 lbs.
Well Armed ridden by jockey Aaron Gryder, 117 lbs.
Global Hunter (ARG) ridden by jockey Mike Smith, 114 lbs.
Tall Texan ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, 112 lbs.
You Got Me Rocking ridden by jockey Joel Rosario, 112 lbs.
Mr Napper Tandy (GB) ridden by jockey Joe Talamo, 112 lbs.
Multiple graded stakes winner Surf Cat will carry top weight of 120 pounds in the San Diego Handicap. Trained by Bruce Headley, Surf Cat is looking to surpass the million-dollar earnings mark. Jockey David Flores will be riding the 6-year-old race horse Surf Cat in the San Diego Handicap.
Trained by Graham Motion, Rebellion is aiming for his 3rd straight graded win. The 5-year-old British-bred son of Mozart, Rebellion, will be ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano and will be carrying 119 pounds, 1 pound less than Surf Cat.
The son of Tiznow, Well Armed, is making his first start since finishing 3rd behind 2007 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Curlin in the Dubai World Cup. The 5-year-old gelding trained by Eoin Harty, Well Armed, is $150,000 short of being a millionaire and is hoping to get the San Diego Handicap winner’s share of $180,000. Jockey Aaron Gryder will be aboard Well Armed this Saturday.
The San Diego Handicap is the 6th race in Del Mar’s July 19 horse racing program. San Diego Handicap post time is 4:30 pm PDT.
