Princess Rooney Handicap at Calder Race Course July 12

Seven older fillies and mares will compete in the $400,000 Princess Rooney Handicap (gr. I), one of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge events on July 12 at Calder Race Course where the Princess Rooney Handicap winner will have an automatic entry in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint to be held on October 24 at Santa Anita Park.

Raced at 6 furlongs, the field Princess Rooney Handicap entries with jockeys and weight line up as follows:

  1. Dixie Dreamer ridden by jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan carries 116 lbs.
  2. Mistical Plan ridden by jockey Corey Nakatani, 116 lbs.
  3. Bereba ridden by jockey Javier Santiago, 114 lbs.
  4. Dream Rush ridden by jockey Eibar Coa, 120 lbs.
  5. Miraculous Miss ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, 117 lbs.
  6. Looky Yonder ridden by jockey Edgar Prado, 117 lbs.
  7. Rgirldoesn’tbluff ridden by jockey Elvis Trujillo, 116 lbs.

The 4-year-old daughter of Wild Rush, Dream Rush, will be carrying top weight of 120 pounds and will be ridden by jockey Eibar Coa in Saturday’s Princess Rooney Handicap. In her first start after finishing 5th in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint last year at Monmouth Park, Dream Rush finished 2nd in the Vagrancy Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park May 25. Dream Rush tuned up for the Princess Rooney Handicap with a 1:00.67 five-furlong move at Aqueduct July 6.

Trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., who also trains Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown, Looky Yonder scored her first stakes victory by catching up to Dream Rush in the Vagrancy Handicap. Jockey Edgar Prado will be riding Looky Yonder in Calder Race Course’s Princess Rooney Handicap on Saturday.

Miraculous Miss is coming off a 4th-place finish in the Humana Distaff (gr. I), her lone start this season, on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Prior to that, Miraculous Miss finished 2nd behind 2007 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Maryfield. Jockey Victor Espinoza will be aboard Miraculous Miss this Saturday.

The Princess Rooney Handicap is the 9th race in Calder Race Course’s July 12 horse racing program. Princess Rooney Handicap post time is 4:26 pm.
