Presious Passion Wins United Nations Stakes And Gets In The Breeders’ Cup Turf

Patricia Generazio’s Presious Passion led wire-to-wire in the $750,000 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 5. The United Nations Stakes is one of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge races giving Presious Passion a starting berth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Mary Hartmann and ridden by Eddie Castro, Presious Passion covered 1 3/8 miles on turf and paid $29.60, $8.80 and $5.40. A neck behind, Strike a Deal with jockey Jose Lezcano up returned $4 and $3. Equitable, under jockey Kent Desormeaux, showed $4.20.

The United Nations Stakes winner’s prize of $450,000 nearly doubled Presious Passion’s lifetime earnings, which now total $908,028 on a record of 8-4-2 in 29 starts. Presious Passion won the McKnight (gr. II) last year and the Pan American (gr. III) this year.

Horses that also raced in Monmouth Park’s United Nation Stakes: Independent George, Buddy’s Humor, Champs Elysees, Ra Der Dean and Crown Point. Sudan was scratched.
