Monba, ridden by jockey Edgar Prado, won Keeneland’s $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I), one of the last major preps for the 2008 Kentucky Derby, on Saturday, April 12.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Monba ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.71 and paid $19.60, $8.60 and $6.60. Another Todd Pletcher trainee, Cowboy Cal with jockey John Velazquez aboard returned $8.80 and $6.60. Kentucky Bear under jockey Jamie Theriot showed $8.20.
Horses that also ran in the Blue Grass Stakes: Stevil, Visionaire, Miner’s Claim, Halo Najib, Medjool, Cool Coal Man, Pyro, Big Truck and Stone Bird.
