Trained by Hall of Famer Nick Zito, Commentator is coming off a victory in Saratoga’s Whitney Handicap (gr. I), a horse race which he also won in 2005. The 7-year-old son of Distorted Humor, Commentator, won 3 of 4 starts this year including the Richter Scale Handicap (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park. Jockey John Velazquez will be riding Commentator in the MassCap.
Dr. Pleasure, third in last year’s MassCap, returns as the 7-2 second choice for race horse owner John Oxley and trainer John Ward. The 5-year-old son of Thunder Gulch out of the champion mare Beautiful Pleasure, Dr. Pleasure, returned from nearly a 5-month layoff due to a breathing problem to post an impressive 8 1/4 length win in an optional claiming race at Saratoga on August 10. Dr. Pleasure will be breaking from the 6th post in Saturday’s Massachusetts Handicap at Suffolk Downs under jockey Cornelio Velasquez.
Third choice at 6-1, Cuba, recently finished 5th in the Iselin Handicap (gr. III) at Monmouth Park. Since being claimed for $18,000 earlier this year, race horse trainer Bobby Dibona has saddled the 7-year-old for 5 victories. Jockey Pedro Cotto will be aboard Cuba thisĀ Saturday.
The Massachusetts Handicap is the 10th race in Suffolk Downs’s September 20 horse racing program. Massachusetts Handicap post time is 5:47 pm.
