West Point Thoroughbreds’ Macho Again, under jockey Julien Leparoux, won the $115,200 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs, home of the 2008 Kentucky Derby, on April 26, Saturday.

Trained by Dallas Stewart, Macho Again covered 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:28.45 and paid $14.20, $5.60 and $3.80. Half a length behind, Kodiak Kowboy, ridden by Corey Lanerie and trained by Steve Asmussen, returned $4.00 and $3.00. Fujita with jockey Calvin Borel aboard paid $5 to show.

One of the Kentucky Derby winners who won in the Derby Trial was 1958 victor Tim Tam. Macho Again, however, will be staying in his stall on the backside during the May 3 Run for the Roses.
