Lewis Michael Wins Pat O’Brien Handicap at Del Mar August 24
Frank Carl Calabrese’s Lewis Michael, ridden by jockey Rene Douglas, won the $297,500 Pat O’Brien Handicap at Del Mar on Sunday, August 24.
As part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” series of horse races, the Pat O’Brien Handicap winner Lewis Michael will automatically be one of the Breeders’ Cup horses for the October 25 Breeders’ Cup Sprint to be held at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Wayne Catalano, Lewis Michael covered 7 furlongs in 1:21.17 and paid $19.20, $9 and $5.80. Rebellion under jockey Rafael Bejarano placed second and returned $7.20 and $5.40. Barbecue Eddie with jockey Aaron Gryder aboard came in third and paid $5.40 to show.
