In Summation Wins El Conejo Handicap at Santa Anita Park

In Summation won the $108,900 El Conejo Handicap (gr. III) by a length at Santa Anita Park‘s Cushion Track on New Year’s Day.

Ridden by jockey Corey Nakatani and trained by Clement Christophe, In Summation ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:10.27 and paid $8.20, $4 and $2.20. Barbecue Eddie with jockey Aaron Gryder came second and returned $4.20 and $2.40. 3-5 wagering favorite Idiot Proof under jockey David Flores paid $2.10 to show.

Corey Nakatani kept In Summation well off the early pace before the 5-year-old took the lead at the sixteenth pole. “This race set up the way I thought it would,” Nakatani said. “We were in the perfect spot and the others had to commit to go.”

The victory, worth $65,340, increased In Summation’s career earnings to $815,166, with nine wins in 20 starts.

Horses that also ran in Santa Anita’s El Conejo Handicap are: Council Member and Barber. Bushwacker was scratched.
