Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park on April 12

The $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) will be contested by 7 horses on Saturday, April 12, at Gulfstream Park.

Lengthened from 1 mile to 1 3/16 miles this year, the Holy Bull Stakes is the last 2008 Kentucky Derby prep race at Gulfstrea Park.

Famous Patriot ridden by jockey Eddie Castro, 118 lbs.
Hey Byrn ridden by jockey Charles Lopez, 118 lbs.
Chief Bear ridden by jockey Sebastian Madrid, 116 lbs.
Bipolar Express ridden by jockey Andrew Ramgeet, 116 lbs.
Nathan Ridge ridden by jockey Eduardo Nunez, 116 lbs.
Dream Maestro ridden by jockey Manoel Cruz, 118 lbs.
Web Gem ridden by jockey Joe Bravo, 118 lbs.

Bea Oxenberg’s Hey Byrn is coming off a 4th place finish, 15 lengths behind Big Brown, one of the leading 2008 Kentucky Derby contenders, in the March 29 Florida Derby. Trained by Edward Plesa Jr., Hey Byrn is the horse to beat in the Holy Bull Stakes. Hey Byrn has won 3 of 7 starts with two seconds and has a bankroll of $176,000. Jockey Charles Lopez will get the mount, replacing Jose Lezcano, and they will break from post two.

Nick Zito trainee, Web Gem, is making his stakes debut following in-the-money allowance performances. The colt of Fusaichi Pegasus, Web Gem, will be ridden by jockey Joe Bravo on Saturday’s Holy Bull Stakes.

The Holy Bull Stakes is scheduled as the 10th and last race of Gulfstream Park’s April 12 horse racing card. Estimated local post time is 6:00 pm CDT.
