Carrying top weight of 122 pounds, Big Brown was installed as the 1-2 morning line favorite in the 2008 Haskell Invitational. In his last race, Big Brown was eased in the Belmont Stakes and missed his chance to be horse racing’s 12th Triple Crown winner. Since then, the son of Boundary, Big Brown, has been working at Aqueduct for his return.

Jockey Kent Desormaux will be riding Big Brown for race horse trainer Richard Dutrow, Jr. in Sunday’s Haskell Invitational.

Looking for his 3rd straight Haskell win, race horse trainer Todd Pletcher sends out Atoned this Sunday. The son of Repent, Atoned, was second in both his Monmouth preps for the Haskell, the Spend a Buck Stakes on June 14 and the Long Branch on July 12. Atoned, with morning line odds of 6-1, will race in blinkers for the first time and will be ridden by jockey Edgar Prado.

Race horse trainer Nick Zito sends out a pair of Robert V. LaPenta’s race horses, Cool Coal Man and Coal Play in Monmouth Park’s Haskell Invitational.

Cool Coal Man finished 15th behind Big Brown in the Kentucky Derby. In his last start, Cool Coal Man beat Atoned to win the Spend a Buck Stakes on June 14 at Monmouth Park. Jockey Eddie Castro will be taking the irons this Sunday.

Coal Play is filling in for Truth Rules who is out with a fever in the 2008 Haskell Invitational. Jockey Joe Bravo will be aboard the 3-year-old son of Mineshaft.

The Haskell Invitational is the 13th race in Monmouth Park’s August 3 horse racing program. The 2008 Haskell post time is 6:14 pm.
