Eleven older horses will battle it out in Gulfstream Park’s Gulfstream Park Turf Stakes (gr. I) at 1 3/8 miles on turf on Saturday, February 23.
All carrying 123 pounds, Gulfstream Park Turf Stakes field with jockeys include:

Trained by Dale Romans for Zayat Stables, Thorn Song began his career by racing on dirt but was winless in his first 7 starts. The horse was switched to grass last, and has instantly gained success. After breaking his maiden on the grass at Churchill Downs , home of the 2008 Kentucky Derby, last June 13. Thorn Song followed that up with a pair of allowance victories at Saratoga.
In his most recent start, Thorn Song finished 5th in the Canadian Turf Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park last January. Prior to that, Thorn Song won the $200,000 River City Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs on November 23.
French-bred Shamdinan was 7 lengths behind Male Turf Horse champion English Channel in the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf last October 27 at Monmouth Park. Jockey Julien Leparoux will be mounting for horse trainer Doug O’Neill and owner Triple B Farms. Shamdinan has not had a victory since winning the $400,000 Secretariat Stakes (gr. IT) at Arlington Park last August 11.
The Gulfstream Park Turf Stakes is scheduled as the 9th race in Gulfstream Park’s February 23 horse racing program. Estimated post time is 5:15 pm CST.
