Goldikova Wins The 2008 Breeders’ Cup Mile At Santa Anita Park
Wertheimer and Frere’s filly Goldikova, ridden by jockey Olivier Peslier, wins the $1,951,080 Breeders’ Cup Mile on October 25 Breeders’ Cup Day Saturday at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Freddie Head, Goldikova covered 1 mile on turf in 1:33.40 and paid $5.60, $4 and $2.80. Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Kip Deville, under jockey Cornelio Velasquez, placed second and returned $4.80 and $3.40. Whatsthescript with jockey Garrett Gomez aboard came in third and paid $3.40 to show.

Irish-bred filly Goldikova won for the fourth consecutive time and became the first filly to win the Breeders’ Cup Mile since Six Perfections in 2003. Goldikova gave Europe its second win in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
