Go Between Wins Sunshine Millions Classic at Santa Anita Park
Go Between, ridden by Eclipse Award winner Garrett Gomez, wins the $1 million Sunshine Millions Classic at California’s Santa Anita Park on Saturday, January 26.
The Sunshine Millions Classic distance of 1 1/8 miles was covered by Go Between in 1:45.64 and paid $12, $6.60 and $4.60. One length behind, Celtic Dreamin under jockey Alex Solis returned $9.80 and $6.20. Seminole Native with jockey Michael Baze is third and showed $10.20.
Four-year-old horses and up that also ran in the Sunshine Millions Classic over at Santa Anita Park are: Diamond Stripes, Buzzards Bay, Bilo, Bold Chieftain, Electrify, Gottcha Gold, defending chamption McCann’s Mojave, Now Victory and Going Ballistic. Better Than Bonds and Joy’s Comet were scratched.
The Sunshine Millions Classic is the third win for horse trainer Bill Mott whose other victories included the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf with Quite a Bride at Santa Anita Park and the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Turf with War Monger at Florida’s Gulfstream Park.
Sunshine Millions Dash
Odds-on choice Bob Black Jack captures the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Dash for trainer James Kasparoff.
The pacesetting Bob Black Jack was ridden to victory by David Flores, who recorded his 7th Sunshine Millions win. The winning time, 1:06.53, broke the Cushion Track mark for six furlongs set by In Summation January 21.
Bob Black Jack paid $3.60, $2.80 and $2.20. Coming in 3 1/2 lengths behind, Winsome Charm with jockey Tyler Baze returned $3.80 and $2.80. Afleet Runner, under Apprentice Jockey Eclipse Awardee Joseph Talamo, paid $3.40 to show.
Bob Black Jack gave California its only victory in the eight-race series. Morning line favorite Georgie Boy and and Topper Shopper were scratched.
Also raced in the Sunshine Millions Dash at Santa Anita: Nevada Worrier, Dee Dee’s Legacy, Little Nick, Italian Rules and Johns Grooms.
Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf
Bill Mott’s Quite a Bride upsets 3-5 favorite Nashoba’s Key to win the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez, who had 2 wins in the Sunshine Millions, Quite a Bride covered 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:49.98 and had payouts of $6.40, $3 and $2.40. Nashoba’s Key under jockey Joseph Talamo paid $2.20 and $2.10. Placid Lake with jockey David Flores aboard showed $4.20.
Snow Cone finished 4th in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf followed by Somethinaboutlaura, Bai and Bai, Lady Tropicana and Gentle Charmer.
Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint
Dearest Tricksi, ridden by jockey Mike Smith, rolled out an easy win in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint.Trained by John Sadler, Dearest Tricksi ran 6 furlongs in 1:07.66 and paid $3.60, $3 and $2.40. Second placer Dixie Dreamer with jockey Eddie Castro returned $8.80 and $6.80. Finishing third is Prime Catch under jockey David Flores showing $3.80.
Four-year-olds and up fillies and mares who also ran in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita are: Sekira, Shaggy Mane, Coli Bear, Cher Ami and More Angels.
Sunshine Millions at Gulfstream Park
Another Bill Mott trainee, War Monger, under jockey Kent Desormeaux catches up to victory in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Turf paying $5.80, $3.80 and $3. Soldier’s Dancer with rider Rene Douglas returned $5.60 and $3.80. Lucky J. H. under Aaron Gryder paid $6.60 to show.
Horses that also ran in the Sunshine Millions Turf were: French Vintage, Add Heat, Icy Atlantic, Birdbirdistheword, Pickapocket, Presious Passion, Epic Power and Summer Book. Ruff and Ready was scratched.
Bobby Frankel’s Ginger Punch, ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano, wins the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff and paid $2.60, $2.40 and $2.10. Peach Flambe came second under rider Eibar Coa returned $18.40 and $10. Memorette with jockey Kent Desormeaux showed with $5.20.
Also participated in the Sunshine Millions Distaff: Saffronista, Bayou’s Lassie, Prop Me Up, Swiss Current, Lost Etiquette, Leah’s Secret, Night Power and Exchanging Fire. Curiously Sweet was scratched.
American County with jockey Edgar Prado on the reigns for trainer Dale Romans wins the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Oak and paid $7.60, $5.20 and $4.20. Robbie’s Gal ridden by Jorge Chavez returned $19.20 and $9.40. Validain with Kent Desormeaux aboard paid $7 to show.
Coming in fourth in the Sunshine Millions Oak was Yogi’ssplashofgold followed by Lovehi, Sindy Jacobson, Cape Cod Lady, Banga Ridge, Blitzing and Phantom Income. Billie Bob was scratched.
Richard Dutrow’s Benny the Bull under jockey Edgar Prado wins the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint paying $4, $2.80 and $2.40. Santana Strings finished next with Shaun Bridgmohan aboard and paid $22.20 and $9.60. Coming in third is Mach Ride with jockey Elvis Trujillo paid $3.60 to show.
Tropic Storm finished 4th in the Sunshine Millions Sprint followed by Mr. Umphrey, Cobalt Blue, Storm in May, Finallymadeit, Praying for Cash, High Standards and Bushwacker
