Ginger Punch Wins Go For Wand Handicap at Saratoga & An Entry In The Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic
Stronach Stables’ Ginger Punch, ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano, won the $250,000 Go for Wand Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, July 26.
Trained by Bobby Frankel, Ginger Punch covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:53.43 and paid $2.40, $2.30 and $2.10. Copper State, under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan returned $5.80 and $3.30. Indescribable with jockey Kent Desormeaux paid $3.30 to show.
The Go for Wand Handicap victory was the 3rd straight and 4th win in 5 starts this year for Ginger Punch, last year’s Eclipse Award winner as the nation’s top older filly or mare. Ginger Punch has improved her record to 11 wins in 19 starts, with five seconds and two thirds and has earned $2,705,603.
Other fillies and mares that raced in Saratoga’s Go for Wand Handicap in order of finish: Moon Catcher, Over Under and Runway Rosie. Inside Passage and Spring Waltz were scratched.
