Georgie Boy Off The 2008 Kentucky Derby Trail With Pulled Back Muscle
Georgie Boy who is among the leading 2008 Kentucky Derby contenders pulled a back muscle and is off the 2008 Kentucky Derby trail.
Georgie Boy’s trainer, Kathy Walsh, said Monday the colt won’t require surgery. He was scheduled to run in Saturday’s $750,000 Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park, the West Coast’s major prep for the Kentucky Derby.
Walsh said the injury was discovered Sunday, and the gelding underwent tests and X-rays. “It’s high on his back end and we don’t know how long it will take (to heal), but we’re not going to take a chance,” horse trainer Kathy Walsh said. “He was a little tight in his back end yesterday, and we had him tested and X-rayed and everything was fine in that regard.”
Horse trainer Kathy Walsh said she would not run the gelding in the Kentucky Derby without a prep race, so Georgie Boy likely will be out of the Kentucky Derby or the Run for the Roses on May 3 at Churchill Downs.
The son of Tribal Rule, Georgie Boy, may not return to racing until the Pacific Classic in August. “We’ll give the horse all the time he needs and let him tell us when to come back,” Walsh said.
Georgie Boy has a 4-2-1 record with victories in the San Vicente Stakes on February 10 and the San Felipe Stakes on March 16. Georgie Boy’s career earnings is $496,806 in seven starts.
