Field of 9 Take On Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs February 16
A field of 9 were entered to race in the $200,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes for 3-year-olds running 1 1/16 miles on the main track of Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, February 16.
The Sam F. Davis Stakes together with the Borderland Derby at Sunland Park are 2008 Kentucky Derby preparatory races scheduled for Saturday.
Horses that will be racing in the Sam F. Davis Stakes this Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs with jockeys, weights and morning line odds are as follows:
Wise Answer ridden by jockey Jose Lezcano carries 122 lbs. with odds of 4-1
Celtic Meal ridden by jockey Andrew Ramgeet, 116 lbs., 30-1
Wonder Mon ridden by jockey Travis Dunkelberger, 116 lbs., 15-1
Fierce Wind ridden by jockey Cornelio Velasquez, 116 lbs., 6-1
Dynamic Wayne ridden by jockey Pablo Morales, 116 lbs., 12-1
Big Truck ridden by jockey Eibar Coa, 116 lbs., 6-1
Smooth Air ridden by jockey Manoel Cruz, 118 lbs., 9-2
Z Humor ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez, 122 lbs., 9-5
Honey Honey Honey ridden by jockey Jose Lopez, 120 lbs., 10-1
Bill Mott’s 2008 Kentucky Derby contender, Z Humor, carries top weight of 122 pounds. Z Humor has earned over $500,000 in his lifetime and comes off of a layoff following a victory in the $1,000,000 Delta Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) last December.
Mount Joy Stables’ Smooth Air, who won the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) on January 5, will be racing beyond seven furlongs for the first time. Jockey Manoel Cruz rides for horse trainer Bennie Stutts.
J.D. Farms’ homebred Wise Answer, also carrying top weight of 122 pounds, ran 7th in his last out, the Tropical Park Derby (gr. IIIT) January 1, but that was his lone start on turf. The Wised Up colt won the Florida Stallion In Reality Stakes by 10 lengths last October.
The Dixie Union colt, Fierce Wind, trained by Nick Zito, showed early speed and drew away impressively in the 1 1/8-mile allowance test at Gulfstream Park January 21.
The Sam F. Davis Stakes is the 10th race in Tampa Bay Downs’ February 16 horse racing program. Estimated post time is 4:52 pm CST.
