Einstein Wins The Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs November 28
Einstein, ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, wins the $440,400 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, on Friday, November 28.
Trained by Helen Pitts, Einstein covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.79 and paid $11.80, $5.20 and $2.60. Delightful Kiss, under jockey Calvin Borel, placed second and returned $10.80, $3.80. Commentator with jockey John Velazquez aboard came in third and paid $2.10 to show.
The Clark Handicap win was Einstein’s first graded stakes victory on dirt and his first win of any kind since taking the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on Kentucky Derby Day in May.
“He deserves it more than anybody out there,” said race horse trainer Helen Pitts. “I’ve never had a horse that loves his job and loves to train and loves to run as much as he does. When he turned for home I knew he’d dig deep down inside to find all he could to get it there. He’s a very special horse.”
Other horses that raced in Churchill Downs’s Clark Handicap in order of finish: Magna Graduate, Wayzata Bay, Dominican and Anak Nakal.
