The son of Harlan’s Holiday, Denis of Cork, has not raced since improving his lifetime record to a perfect 3-for-3, after a convincing win in the Southwest Stakes (gr. III) on February 18 at Oaklawn Park. Denis of Cork’s owners, Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren, and trainer David Carroll opted to bypass Oaklawn Park’s Rebel Stakes (gr. II) in favor of a single prep leading to the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) on May 3 at Churchill Downs.
Dogwood Stables’ Atoned is coming off a second place finish, one neck behind one of the leading Kentucky Derby entries of horse trainer Barclay Tagg, Big Truck, in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III) last March 15 at Tampa Bay Downs, making it four consecutive second place finishes, all in stakes competition. The son of Repent, Atoned, is being trained by Todd Pletcher.
The Illinois Derby is scheduled as the 7th race in Hawthorne Race Course’s April 5 horse racing program. Estimated post time is 4:26pm CST.
