Curlin Wins Jaguar Trophy at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse
Horse of the Year Curlin won his first race as a 4-year-old in the $1750,000 Jaguar Trophy at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse Thursday, February 28. It was his 2008 debut.
Racing for the first time since winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic last October, Curlin, ridden by jockey Robby Albarado, covered 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.60. Familiar Territory was 2 1/4 lengths behind followed by Jet Express who placed 3rd in the 6-horse event.
Unraced as a 2-year-old, Curlin had an impressive campaign as a 3-year-old. He won the Preakness Stakes and placed in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. He also won the Arkansas Derby and Jockey Club Gold Cup en route to winning the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year and top 3-year-old male.
The Jaguar Trophy serves as Curlin’s final prep race for the $6 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) also at 1 1/4 miles on Saturday, March 29, at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
